Toyota halts sales of Lexus SUVToyota halts sales of Lexus SUVToyota Motor Corp. said last night it will temporarily stop selling its Lexus GX 460 after Consumer Reports said the SUV is unsafe.The influential and independent magazine identified an issue with the GX 460's electronic stability control system and issued a "don't buy" recommendation on the vehicle until the problem is fixed.Casual product"For more than 20 years,#x Lexus has made customer safety and satisfaction our highest priorities. We are taking the situation with the GX 460 very seriously and are determined to identify and correct the issue Consumer Reports identified," Mark Templin, Lexus group vice-president and general manager, said in a statement.It is the first time that the highly regarded publication has warned consumers not to buy a vehicle since 2001 with the Mitsubishi Montero.While the recommendation is rare, it is almost unheard of for a car company to so quickly yank a product following a negative media report.The publication said it had identified an issue with the latest GX 460 when it takes a turn at high speed and the driver lifts his foot off the accelerator pedal,#x causing the back end to skid out to an unacceptable level until the electronic stability control kicks in."We believe that in real-world driving, that situation could lead to a rollover accident, which could cause serious injury or death," the report states. "We are not aware, however,Casual productof any such reports."Consumer Reports goes on to state that the so-called "liftoff oversteer" condition could occur when a driver enters a highway exit ramp or drives through a sweeping turn and encounters an unexpected obstacle or suddenly finds that the turn is too tight for the vehicle's speed."A natural impulse is to quickly lift off the accelerator pedal. If that were to happen in the GX, the rear could slide around far enough that a wheel could strike a curb or slide off the pavement. Either of those scenarios can cause a vehicle to roll over. And because the GX is a tall SUV with a high centre of gravity, our concern for rollover safety is heightened," the report states.In announcing the sales suspension, Toyota said, "Our engineering teams are vigorously testing the GX using Consumer Reports' specific parameters to identify how we can make the GX's performance even better."The company also offered a loaner car for any GX 460 drivers concerned about their vehicle while Toyota is examining the alleged problem.Consumer Reports said an extended slide was repeated with four different drivers independently, and has not been identified with any other SUV the publication has put through similar testing.The publication said it was urging consumers not to buy the 2010 GX 460 until the problem has been fixed,Carbon fiber hood,Casual productand that it had notified both the manufacturer and the U.S.#x National Highway Traffic Safety Board about the issue.相关的主题文章：
