The 911 GT2 RS was reportedly unveiled at a VIP and dealer event this past weekend in Leipzig,Compact fluorescent lamp, Germany. The car is all but confirmed -- when asked for comment, a Porsche spokesperson told us today that he didn’t have anything official to announce, but added “I won’t say it doesn’t exist.”According to reports, the GT2 RS will follow Porsche’s traditional RS recipe (the GT3 RS is pictured at left and below) of shedding weight and piling on power. The GT2 RS reportedly uses a modified version of the current 911 Turbo’s twin-turbocharged, direct-injection 3.8-liter flat-six, and may produce as much as 620 horsepower. Unlike the Turbo however, Porsche's lightweight GT2 will use the lighter rear-wheel-drive setup typical of GT2s past.Carbon fiber hoodFurther weight savings will reportedly come by stripping some parts from the interior, expanding the use of carbon fiber inside and out, and using lightweight wheels cribbed from the RS Spyder. #x We see carbon fiber on the car’s side vents in the photo above, but sources claim the GT2 RS also sports a bare carbon fiber hood, front splitter, and lower rear bumper. Inside, the car reportedly uses sport seats trimmed in black Alcantara, while stitching, door pulls, armrests, and the steering wheel are trimmed in a contrasting shade of red.That diet reportedly helps to bring the GT2 RS’ weight below the 3000 pound mark, allowing the car to sprint from 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds. Other numbers thrown out about the car on the Web indicate 0-120 mph will reportedly come in “well below” 10 seconds, and a 0-180 mph blast will take less than 25 seconds. Sources say the über-Porsche can lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 min, 22 sec -- roughly the same time as the Dodge Viper ACR.Carbon fiber hoodEarly reports indicate only 300 of these extreme machines will be produced at a price of ?40,000 ($318,000) a copy.
