CASA to hold bicycle ride to benefit abused and neglected childrenCASA to hold bicycle ride to benefit abused and neglected childrenAn organization that helps children who have been removed from homes because of abuse and neglect will hold bicycle rides in and around Shepherdstown on May 22. #xCourt Appointed Special Advocates,Grow lightor CASA, has been funded largely by grants in past years, but that money is becoming tougher to secure, event organizers said.The Ride On for CASA Kids event will raise money through registration fees.Riders will depart Shepherdstown and ride through scenic rural areas and Civil War sites, organizers said.Riders will choose from 10-, 25-, 50- and 100-mile and metric routes, organizers said. Certain routes offer moderate challenges to avid cyclists. Easier routes will be available for individuals and families looking for a more leisurely ride. A “Tykes on Trikes” loop is available.Entry fees range from $35 to $65.#x Start times are 7 a.m., 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.Grow lightCASA recruits and trains community volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children. CASA works with agencies to identify resources for children and families, and helps abused children find safe homes.About 1,Positive Plate,500 cases of child abuse are reported annually to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services in the Eastern Panhandle.
