Battle of the Netbook Stars, ContinuedBattle of the Netbook Stars, ContinuedNetbooks, netbooks everywhere, and not an end in sight. From Samsung, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, MSI#x and othersNeedle Felt, the category continues to bloom this year, projected to grow to more than 20 million units by the end of 2009. With the price of Intel Atom chips falling as the netbook market expands and volume ramps up, the pressure is on companies like Apple and Sony: neither is yet a player in this high-stakes game.Asus has long been involved, though, and among the more charming of netbook newcomers — along with Dell’s buck-busting $299 Mini 10v, just unwrapped — is the Asus Eee 1008HA, a k a the Seashell. Superlight at less than three pounds, the Eee looks to be handsomely tapered,Thermal Plate, with a 10-inch LED-backlit LCD and a prospective price of $429. Methinks that price could drop in view of Dell setting a strong $299 priceNeedle Feltpoint.CNET UK recently reviewed the 1008HA, and said the netbook was “a small, light, and sexy device aimed at the fashion-conscious netbook fan who puts portability slightly above performance…The glossy black finish, the gently tapering lid, and the wedge-shaped profile all contribute to an overall design that’s more aesthetically pleasing than that of rivals.”The Seashell incorporates a nonuser-replaceable lithium-polymer battery pack. One advantage is that it can be molded into shape for slenderizing machines like the Asus.Is the line beginning to blur even more between net- and notebooks? A 10-inch display is inching quite close to an arbitrary line that might delineate the categories. Still, style. #xisn’t yet a substitute for usefulness andNeedle Feltfunctionality.相关的主题文章:
