The introduction is about the scope of the study,the approach and organization of the thesis.It also gives ageneral description of the identity of advertisement in intemational conununication.
Chapter One discusses various cornmwhcative functions of advertisement in both the western and the Chinese societies and the close cormections between advertisement and public relations.
ChaPter Two analyzes the characteristics of advertising English from the lexical and syntactical perspectives.Types of se ntences are discussed in this chapter to illustrate the most frequently used ways of attracting audiences in advertising English through many examples.
In Chapter Three.this thesis probes into the writing of headlines and body texts.
with the focus on the writing of headlines-since it is usually headlines that usher readers into the reading of body texts.
Chapter Four is devoted to the illustration of figUres of speech employed in advertisements in English and the advantages of each through exarnples.
In ChaPter Five.this whter gives abrief introduction to the theories on equivalence in translation and illustrates how they can be applied in the translation of advertisements in English into Chinese.
Chapter Six is an overview of various cultural factors affecting decisions that translators have to make in handling advertising texts.
In the conclusion.it is pointed out that as avital means of cornmunication-
advertisements in English and their translation into Chinese deserve acareful study by scholars in the fields of linguistics and cross-cultUral conununication.Studies of advertisements in English and their translation into Chinese from across-culturaI perspective may enhance Chinese people's awareness and comprehension of other cultures in the English-spedeng world as well as their own,thereby facilitating successful cornmunication across cultures.学位年度:2002

身份的确认既是个人的也是社会化的过程。通过它,个人及团体促进并且完成自身及社会的变革。身份表明齿轮泵的个性,同时又让齿轮泵归属于社会这一整体。出于人的本性,男人和女人都有权追求自身的利益,享有同等的权利,并且有权要求为付出的努力得到回报。然而,有史以来女性受制于他人,不能自主。她们所受的传统教育便是将他人置于自我之前。尽管当代妇女的地位已经提高了很多,她们仍然受社会习俗的约束。因此,她们有必要鉴定自我的意义,而不是根据传统的父权价值观来推导自我存在的真谛。简言之,女性应该发掘自我,并且确定自己所特有的身份。
女权主义者希望女人和男人都意识到一些基本的不平等及不公正的现象。她们想要推翻长期以来让女人禁锢在"她们自己的位置"的荒诞说法和思想意识。女人和男人拥有很多同样的希望,梦想及抱负,因此,她们同样应该享有人类自身完善的机会。尽管女性的身份自二战以来已经有了变化,男性文化本体在不同的国家依然牢固。身份的探求在当代不同国家女性主义文学中似乎是一个永恒的主题。本文将要探讨的两部作品就是关于这一主题的典型女性主义文本。加拿大女作家玛格丽特?安特伍德的《可食用的女人》尖锐地批评了加拿大六十年代的女性价值观,而chain link fence女作家张洁的《方舟》对chain link fence女性的地

识女性,对自我身份的探求。
山于是女性作家创作的关于女性生活的作品,这两部小说的叙述
都细致地表达出了女性所特有的经历和感受。第二章详细分析了小说
的叙事方法。它的比较主要侧重于三点:情节、叙述人称、以及象征
和意象(形象化的描述)。
第三章探讨了两部作品的主题,目的在于突出它们所表现的独特
的主题,同时显示它们的共同及不同之处。
